ASPOA Report (11/09/2022)

The Asia and South Pacific Ostomy Association (ASPOA) is a peak body for the Asia Pacific Region for Stoma Associations. The association aims to work with the other regional associations and theInternational Ostomy Association in promoting the rights of ostomates, quality patient care and providing support and medical know how for ostomates and health professionals.

ASPOA has 15 affiliated associations within the region and has a coordinating committee comprisingthe following:

President: Dr. Allen Nash – Australia
Vice President: Jill Annette Newton – New Zealand
Secretary: Mr. Ronaldo S. Lora – Philippines
Treasurer: Mr. Richard McNair – New Zealand
Fifth Member: Dr. Etsuhide Yamamoto – Japan
Medical Adviser: Dr. Enkh Tsirigen – Mongolia

Our next major activity is our Conference in Singapore on August 17th to 20th, 2023 which is combined with the surgeons and nurses’ conferences for those practitioners working in the ostomy area. This will be a great opportunity for Ostomy Association staff and Directors to get together with others in the region after our long time of isolation forced on us by COVID.

Our goal is to provide information, education and health care to all ostomy patients and their families and to pursue excellence in developing and establishing the highest level of ostomy groups all over the world in three existing regions structured under the IOA Coordination Committee.The IOA is divided into three regions that provided help to ostomates. We work hand in hand with specialists, surgeons, wound and ostomy care nurses for the advancement of ostomy care and practice.
