World Ostomy Day – ALADO / FAODRA 2015

AADO (Argentina) worked in full stride to realize the implementation of the “Ostomy Act” in its whole scope which took effect in April of this year. The Association continues to work for its regularization.The Act intends to standardize the mandatory medical program of full coverage of devices (bag barriers) and accessory items for the clientele as prescribed and in the correct amount that is needed. The prime movers for this act was headed by the Dr. Bedano with constant support from the officers of AADO. The benefits of this law will help all patients whether temporary or permanent, and whether or not one is covered with a health coverage.

The law also recognizes and guarantees the right of ostomates to have an interdisciplinary team to ensure their rehabilitation and reintegration into social life.The law also foresees the development of guidelines where necessary specified clinical care and healthy habits for the treatment of patients ostomates.

They also celebrated World Ostomy Day on 3 October with associations from (Cordoba, Neuquen, San Luis, Jujuy, Buenos Aires, etc.). All together in a whole day, there where workshops regarding Ostomy Care and Ostomy Association Argentina explained the scope of the Act Ostomate,which was enacted on December 2014 under No. 27071. Also courses were held throughout the year in the training of nurses and all health personnel involved.This meeting was held at the Association of the Province of Córdoba FAODRA and ADOC.

Just recently, they completed the course of Federal ostomy care for people, with the presence of a doctor and four nurses in the province of San Luis (800km from Buenos Aires. Coloplast and B.Braun Laboratory participated.

FAODRA (Córdoba-Argentina) The meeting was held in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Cordoba.The day opened with greetings from IOA by Dr. Harikech Busch, former president. It was noted that importance must be given to involve several institutions coming from other other provinceson how they should organize associations. At the forefront of this work are international institutions such as the IOA – OAA – ALADO, and the functions performed by each regions from the same continent.

During the discussions several issues were emphasized on the training of health personnel (nurses) for proper care of persons with an ostomy, training clinics in different hospitals in provinces with the support of the Training Center of the National Hospital of Clinics and FAODRA, the draft FOR STOMA CARE (LFSC) inherited from Dr. Carlo Pescoller WILGELMO Lions Club Modena Italy. The Associations participating from the provinces were: Buenos Aires, San Nicolas, Santa Fe, La Pampa, San Luis, Neuquen, Jujuy, Marcos Juarez, Cordoba, with its delegates and individuals with an ostomy.

Our goal is to provide information, education and health care to all ostomy patients and their families and to pursue excellence in developing and establishing the highest level of ostomy groups all over the world in three existing regions structured under the IOA Coordination Committee.The IOA is divided into three regions that provided help to ostomates.
