Hydrotherapy for Ostomates: An ASPOA Webinar

Hydrotherapy offers several benefits for individuals with a colostomy bag, promoting both physical and emotional well-being. The warm water used in hydrotherapy helps relax muscles, reduce joint pain, and improve circulation, which can be especially helpful for those recovering from surgery or managing discomfort.

Gentle aquatic exercises can also enhance core strength and mobility without placing excessive strain on the abdominal area, making it a safe form of physical activity.

Additionally, the buoyancy of water reduces pressure on the body, allowing for greater freedom of movement and a sense of weightlessness that can boost confidence and reduce anxiety. For people with a colostomy bag, hydrotherapy can also support mental health by offering a soothing, low-impact environment that encourages relaxation, stress relief, and a greater sense of normalcy in daily life.
